Golconda Fort In Hyderabad In India most of the forts are located in Rajasthan but,one of them is also located in Hyderabad that is none other than Golconda fort.It came into existence during 14th-16th century . Golconda is also known as Golconda which means round shaped hill or shepherds hill.It is situated in the western part of Hyderabad .Golconda fort is the capital of the medieval sultanate of the Qutub Shahi Dynasty.The region is well known for the mines that have produced some of the worlds most famous gems such as Kohinoor ,the hope diamond ,nassak diamond and the Noor-ul-Ain.

Golconda was originally known as Mankal :
It was built by the Kakatiya dynasty as a part of their western defenses along the lines of the Kondapalli Fort.The fort is built on granite’s hill high ,it is surrounded by massive battlements.The Golconda fort was rebuilt by Rani Rudramadevi and her successtory Prataparudra .It was ceded by the Bahamani sultanate as a part of treaty in 1364.The Bahamani rule gradually weakened during this period around 1501 and sultan Quli formally became independent in 1538 establishing the Qutub Shahi Dynasty a period of 62 Years ,the mud fort was expanded by the first three Qutub Shahi Sultans.Thus ,it remained the capital of the Qutub Dynasty till 1590 when shifted to Hyderabad .The fort fell into ruin in 1687,after an eight years long siege leading to its fall at the hands of the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb.
The whole of the Golconda fort complex and its surrounding spreads across 11 kilometers and discovering its every nook is an ardous task .A visit to the fort reveals the architectural beauty in many of the pavilions ,gates ,entrances ,domes .The beautiful and graceful gardens of the Golconda fort may have lost their fragrance ,for which they were known four hundred years ago ,yet a walk in these former gardens should be explored by the past glories .Much thought went into building this gate is a large wall to prevent enemy attacks.
It is believed that there is a secret underground tunnel that leads from the “Durbar Hall” and ends in one of the palaces at the foot of the hill .It is also believed that there is a secret tunnel to Charminar. A village located in the southern part of Trinidad had given the name in the 19th century to a rich tract of land which was once a sugar estate.
